"The airline would operate four flights per week, from Durban to Port Elizabeth "
Low cost airline Velvet Sky will next week enter the Eastern Cape market, with the official launch of its flights in Port Elizabeth.
Chief operating officer Gary Webb told I-Net Bridge/BusinessLIVE that the airline would operate four flights per week, from Durban to Port Elizabeth and from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. The introductory or special fare on the single trip on these routes would be R450. Air tickets were already on sale at any Shoprite Checkers countrywide, he said.
“We anticipate operating about 24 flights a day in the country by the end of the year, from 10 flights currently,” Webb said.
Webb said the airline was exploring potential opportunities in the South African Development Community region.
The Durban-based airline began flight operations in March this year. The launch in Port Elizabeth is on November 4.
