Zimbabwe Platinum Mines on Thursday is set to launch the country’s first community share ownership trust (CST)under the country’s indigenisation policy.
The Australian listed platinum miner is set to cede 10% of its shares to the Ngezi community were its carries out its mining operations.
According to the indigenisation ministry CST’s “shall be between 5 to 11 members depending on the size of the defined community in relation to the business concerned. The chief shall be the chairperson of the CST. The chairperson of the (RDC) shall be a trustee (whilst) the chief executive of the RDC shall be the secretary of the CST,”.
The ministry further states that “Monies accruing to the trust from such shareholding in a business shall be used for the provision of social and economic infrastructure in line with the priorities of the communities concerned,”.
President Robert Mugabe is expected to officiate at the function.
