Zimbabwe is seeking funding to carry out a US$32 million aeromagnetic exploration exercise in the Eastern Highlands to determine the extent of its mineral reserves.
The mines ministry confirmed that it had already floated the tender but was negotiating on the funding for the project.
Aeromagnetic exploration is a type of geophysical survey carried out using a magnetometer aboard or towed behind an aircraft, allowing large land areas to be covered.
The decision to carry out the survey comes on the back of increased reports of dwindling diamond output by companies currently operating in Marange which has seen Sino-Zimbabwe already suspending operations.
