The mines ministry said the move had been necessitated by increased reports of the firms reselling diamonds availed to them at concessionary prices by the government to international buyers.

The ministry said it had instituted an investigation into the reports.

Meanwhile the mines ministry has announced new licencing conditions for local diamond cutters and polishers.
