Business lobby group, Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries has objected to a planned electricity tariff increase by Zesa to companies with existing supply contracts.
Power utility Zesa has proposed to increase its current tariff of 12.66 cents /KWh to 14.84 cents/KWh despite having existing power supply contract with a number of companies mainly mining to provide uninterrupted supplies to their operations.
“CZI stringly objects to such heavy increases hence we are now engaging Zesa and the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera). Under the Energy Regulatory Act, new tariffs are subject to consultation with customers and approval by Zera,” CZI said.
