The Ministry of Agriculture has lifted the ban on imported animal products such as chicken with immediate effect.The ministry however said the importation of the above products will now undergo through inspection before entering the country to avoid dumping.
"In this regard,subject to the country's law's,the right to import,dairy,stock feed's and live animals is restored." said the ministry in a statement.
The lifting of the ban comes after local poultry producers had failed to meet local demand resulting in constant shortages on the market.
The situation had also seen local producers effecting unjustified price increases for chicken with a 2kg pack going for $7.50 compared to $6 when imports were allowed.
